Did you have a previous version of Notes installed before, if so did you remove it or just "upgrade" to 8.5 Gold? I had the 8.5 beta, and tried just upgrading to gold and had issues, the main one was it just hanging on the Splash Screen. I killed the process, ran the uninstaller, then re-installed Notes and it is fine now.
